You know you’ve been on a road a long time when you are really excited about getting to your motel at 3:00pm in the afternoon, even if you also know you will be spending all that free time in the laundromat!
We said goodbye to Bill and Nellie who are off to retrieve their trailer and go home to Arkansas.  We headed in the other direction, south toward Rock Springs, WY.
The first part of the drive was alonside the Hoback Canyon and then, along the Hoback River as it snaked back and forth under the road.  It was one of the prettiest rivers we’ve seen, and I’ve hardly seen a river I didn’t like.  We don’t hunt or fish or hike but I would love to own a home on the Hoback River.
We had two choices of path to get to Rock Springs and we turned off onto the shorter one which may not have been the most scenic.  However, it was pretty in its own way.  We were in the “high cold desert” (according to a

Getting to Anchorage

highway sign) the rest of the way into our destination.  We could see for miles in any direction, even though there were rolling hills, and we could only rarely see a house along the way except in the few communities we passed.  We did see small herds of pronghorn antelope and we read that there were upwards of 60,000 in that area who migrated in winter from Yellowstone down the same path we were taking to Rock Springs.
Along the way, we stopped in the town of Pinedale, a thriving little community which had a NAPA store.  A lady from the Chamber of Commerce saw us and called the newspaper so Ben was interviewed by a reporter about our trip.  She took several pictures of Marian Rose so we can  expect she will be featured in the story.
Tomorrow, we will head out for Steamboat Springs along a path which appears to include some dirt road.  Ben assures me that it is dirt or interstate, my choice (knowing I’m terrified of the interstate in a T).  It is a little longer drive but should be pretty.  Wish us luck!
