After a long day yesterday, we had a lazy morning - sleeping in, catching up with email and business things at home - and finally got moving toward Banff.  The town of Banff is well known for the wealthy and famous people who come  here but the ones we saw on the street today looked a lot like us.  Most of the shops were geared for tourists (tee shirts, post

cards, key chains, "my grandma went to Banff ..." sort of things).  But there were also lots of shops with pricey and well-made gear for mountain sports.  And PLENTY of jewelry shops for those who REALLY know how to buy souvenirs.  I bought a hat which you will see in the pictures.

After lunch, we went south of town to ride the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain, my first time to ride one without being pulled screaming into the car. The ads promised panoramic views of Banff, the mountains surrounding it and the entire Bow River Valley and they didn't disappoint.   It was a beautiful view but very crowded and, with the haze over the valley, not easy to get good photographs.

We are leaving in the morning for another long drive to Cranbrook, BC, nearly 200 miles again.  We expect it to be beautiful but difficult because we will be driving back over the mountains to get there.  Cranbrook is our last stop in Canada before crossing back into the United States on Thursday.  We've had a lovely time in Canada but we're excited to be almost "home."
