Cruise the Inside Passage aboard the Holland American - Statendam
The Captain had mentioned that we would be passing through a very  narrow passage  that would take us from Canadian to U.S. waters.  We  could only pass through safely when the tide was full, around 4:00am.  Ben happened to wake up as we were passing through the channel and wake me up to come see.  It was so beautiful, a tree-covered island with a totally full moon hanging low enough to touch.  We were gliding along in near silence, with only a slight swooshing sound to show we were under power.

Ben already had his camera out and we were both out on the balcony until the cold finally forced us back in.  I finally went back to bed but he stayed up to watch was we passed the channel into the sea beyond.  Once again, we were happy we were lucky enough to get a balcony.  We just threw on our robes and we were out there.

Another of the many small islands we passed while on the cruise
The day ended with another fine sunset on the Inside Passage
Lighthouse & residence along the inside passage.
Moon & mountians viewed from our stateroom about 4:30 am.
At dawn we were able to see other cruise vessels travelling nea
The day  was spent at sea and with breakfast came rain.  I took a nap in the morning and another one after lunch.  Finally, the sun came out and we were sitting on deck when a woman at the next table exclaimed, "Do you see that rainbow?"  It was a totally full rainbow, from end to end, in brilliant color.  Close enough to grab the pot of gold, if you'd been willing to risk the icy water.
Dinner was formal and delicious.  I brought formal wear but will send it all home when we get to Anchorage - won't have much need for formal wear while traveling in the Model T.  We waited too long to decide on an excursion in Ketchikan so will have to find our own way around tomorrow.  Book those excursions in advance!
